The Indian gooseberry or amla provides a great many benefits to your hair and scalp. It contains tannins, vitamin C, antioxidants, kaempferol, flavonoids, and Gallic acid. All these nutrients help in enhancing the hair texture. Amla also contains Vitamin C, the lack of which in the body is one of the major reasons for hair loss.

When you lose a lot of weight rapidly, your body counts that as an inciting event, Dr. Senna says. Making a big diet change, like cutting out an entire food group, can also your hair shed because your body isn’t getting the same nutrients that it did before. If you did make a big change, Dr. Senna says tracking your food for just three consistent days can be a helpful way to assess whether or not your new diet is balanced. It’s usually easy to figure out where you can add a protein boost, like a scoop of beans or some more yogurt, she says.

Coloring, perming, and conditioning the hair do not usually cause hair loss. Burns or severe processing may cause hair loss and breakage. Styles that pull tight may cause some loss, but hair coloring and chemicals usually don’t.

hi minaz.. is hibiscus paste applied only for scalp or entire hair till bottom of the hair? and can we mix fenugreek paste+hibiscus leaves paste+ henna leaves paste +curd and grind it and apply for hair?

Male pattern hair loss is very common and usually has a genetic/familial component. Classic patterns include a receding hairline, involving thinning at the frontal-temporal areas, or on the crown of the scalp. These scalp areas are affected because they have “5-HT” receptors that bind testosterone. Interestingly, the hair in the back of the scalp does not have these testosterone-binding receptors, which make them the ideal place to harvest for hair transplants. When they are transplanted to the front or top of the scalp, they will not become testosterone-sensitive, so the transplanted hairs will not fall out faster or patterned, as the old hairs did.

Alopecia areata is an immune disease that affects almost 2% of the population in the United States. This type of hair loss appears in various degrees of severity — from small, round patches of hair loss that regrow without medical treatment, to chronic, extensive hair loss that can involve the loss of all hair on the scalp or body.

The most common cause of hair loss is a medical condition called hereditary hair loss. About 80 million men and women in the United States have this type of hair loss. Other names for this type of hair loss are:

Aloe vera when mixed with castor oil and applied onto the scalp, promotes the blood circulation. Thus, it promotes the hair growth by removing the dead cells from scalp and providing hydration to the strands.

If you’re a mother, you probably recall during pregnancy how full your hair was. Many women say that the times when they’re pregnant are the times when their hair looks its best. And then you undoubtedly remember the aftermath of those months of gorgeous hair. All the hair that should’ve fallen out little by little now comes out in huge amounts of hair loss in just a short period of time. This is called telogen effluvium. This occurs in 40 percent to 50 percent of women, and it’s due to the change in hormones during pregnancy. Thankfully, it’s only a temporary hair loss. (10)

What you can do: Most cases of PCOS are treated with birth control pills such as Yasmin, which contains a potent anti-androgen that blocks testosterone. If you can’t use birth control pills, your doctor may prescribe spironolactone (Aldactone), which also blocks male hormones. Losing weight can also help by decreasing the effect of the male hormones. I have DHT levels at the bottom -end of the normal range, so low DHT, however I’m still going bald, so besides DHT levels it also depends greatly on the sensitivity of your hair follicles to DHT. If you have high or low levels of DHT finasteride should obviously still help you maintain your hair as the process remains the same either way.

Yogurt is equally wonderful for hair. It is full of protein, which works to strengthen the hair shaft, thus preventing split ends and breakage. At the same time, yogurt also conditions, moisturises, and adds volume and shine to your hair.

Missing the early warning signs of hair loss is one of the biggest mistakes both men and women makes when it comes to protecting the health of their hair. If you wait until the hair loss is visible to the naked eye, you’re too late — 50% is already gone!

In rare cases finasteride may cause a skin rash, erectile dysfunction, less desire for sex or tenderness in the nipple area. If you do experience these side effects, they may well disappear quickly as your body gets used to finasteride. If you are at all concerned about the side effects you should stop taking the treatment and consult a doctor.

When hair is wet, it is in its weakest state. So avoid brushing wet hair because the chances of hair loss increases. But if you must comb wet hair, use a very wide-toothed comb. Also avoid brushing hair too frequently as doing so can injure hair and increase loss. Use your fingers to undo tangles, not a comb or brush.

This is the loss of hair caused by compulsive pulling and bending of the hairs. Due to the constant extraction of the hair roots, permanent hair loss can occur. Onset of this disorder tends to begin around the onset of puberty and usually continues through adulthood.

I don’t believe I clench at night. I will follow your suggestions for relaxation (which will have benefits beyond hair too, I’m sure). It makes intuitive sense to me that the uneven graying /thinning is tension related. I also feel I want to direct lots loving/positive attention towards that side. Thank you again, it means a lot to me that you have responded and given me and others so much invaluable info and hope.

Include more high-protein foods and vegetables in your diet. Eating lean meats, fish, soy, or other proteins may help to curb hair loss. Additionally, eating a well-balanced diet that contains a lot of vegetables can help you get the vitamins you need in order to grow and maintain a healthy head of hair.

Minaz, thank you very much for your wonderful blog and wealth of information. I am a 65 years old women who has halted my hair loss more or less by focusing on natural hair care and diet. I have even had some considerable regrowth at my hairline which had been my biggest worry. My question to you has to do with the two sides of my head growing back quick differently. My left side is full but my right side is noticeably thinner and more gray. Is this something you’ve seen before? Should I focus more of my energies (massage, mask etc) on the right side? I would like to do all I can to even out the two sides as much as possible. Thank you in advance.

Originally, the Derma Roller was just a tool for skin care, but a later study confirmed that if used on the scalp in conjunction with minoxidil, it can help regrow hair better than using minoxidil alone.

This procedure involves moving hair to thinning scalp areas from donor sites. The trouble is, female pattern baldness causes thin hair all over, so good donor sites may be limited. The exceptions are women with male pattern baldness or hair loss caused by scarring.

The correct treatment can restore some of the hair if the follicles are still alive but if they’ve died, the hair won’t grow back, experts say. Existing hair can be preserved, however. The key, for the sake of a woman’s sanity and self-esteem, is to catch the condition early – some women can lose up to half their hair before they even notice.

I’ve looked into taking finasteride. My father was prescribed it about 30 years ago for some minor prostate issues. After taking it for a year he said it had no effect on his hair regrowth. Do you think since it had no effect on my father, it will not effect me? I’m just a bit worried about giving it a shot after reading articles like this https://raypeatforum.com/community/threads/finasteride-causes-physical-damage-to-nerves-depression-ed-steroid-imbalance.16979/#post-230383

There is a common misconception that men who suffer from Male Pattern Baldness should ‘just let nature take its course’. Those who believe that nothing can be done to help Male Pattern Baldness often think that because it is an inherited condition, it is also untreatable and unpreventable. But hair loss can 0ften be reversed.

The cause of hair loss in men is due to the hair follicles’ sensitivity to DHT (5α-Dihydrotestosterone). DHT is a male androgen hormone that causes follicles to shrink, resulting in a shorter life span and decrease hair production. Normally after hairs fall out another hair starts to grow from this same follicle, but if DHT is high hair growth decreases. Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia in men) follows a pattern of a receding hairline that progresses to an “M” shape and then continues to the familiar “U” shape.
