Fact: If you’re older than fifteen, the era of your thickest hair has come and gone. From now on, the name of the game is to keep as much of that stuff on your head and maintaining its luster, strength and shine.
My scalp is dry, itchy, and irritated everywhere. I’ve been using H&S Clinical Strength shampoo for 2-3 years and its been pretty good at keeping it under control. I’ve been using rogaine for about 1 year now and I’m trying to avoid propecia if possible. Recently my hairline has quickly recede, and I’m not sure what to do. My friend said to start using nizoral every couple days. Do you recommend Nizoral for every few days? If so, what conditioner do you recommend and what shampoo do you recommend for the other days of the week when not using Nizoral? Thanks for your help – great site.
Excessive stress and some medications are conclusively known to retard hair growth. If you have a medical condition and your physician has prescribed medications it is imperative that you follow your doctor’s orders regardless of the impact on your hair.
You’ll notice recession in very particular places: at the anterior hairline (your temples), the crown (what we commonly refer to as the bald spot), and diffused thinning through the mid-frontal scalp.
I am very pleased with my FUT hair transplant and plasma injections. My hair had receded quite a bit and thinning out. It has been 18 months now. For the first time in my life I can wear my hair with or without bangs! He lowered my hair line, which complimented my high forehead. He is very professional and thorough. I posted before and after pictures on my Facebook last week. I highly recommend him.
Yes, it is true that hair loss can be caused by stress. However, it’s much harder to reach that point of distress than you may think. Hair loss from stress usually comes from physical strains like childbirth, menopause or prolonged, severe illnesses — so there’s likely not much you can do if you want to know how to stop thinning hair through stress reduction. On the bright side, you don’t need to worry about your morning commute causing hair loss.
For hair loss due to illness (such as fever), radiation therapy, medicine use, or other causes, no treatment is needed. Hair usually grows back when the illness ends or the therapy is finished. You may want to wear a wig, hat, or other covering until the hair grows back.
Your hair is a reflection of your health, so if you’re skipping exercise, eating a lot of junk food or overdoing it on the booze, it’ll show on your head. A healthy lifestyle will naturally make your hair look healthy.
I guess everyone knows what to eat and what not to eat, but there are so many temptations that you can easily get carried away. Eating simple home cooked meals is a great way to nourish your hair and skin from the inside out.
For many people, hair is more elastic when wet. This means it breaks off more easily than dry hair. When hair breakage occurs, the hair appears shaggy or too thin. For people who are of African descent, their hair is not more elastic when wet.
Diet: Eat a balanced diet as it largely contributes to hair loss. Genetically, hair consists of proteins and as such, eating a diet with protein will support the health of your hair. Good nutrition will boost hair health and also help re-grow hair. Avoid fast food and processed food, and cut down on alcohol and sugar. Stick to fruits, vegetables, whole grains and meat products (NB: Too much nyama choma is not healthy).
Trichotillomania (trick-uh-til-uh-mey-knee-uh): This medical disorder causes people to repeatedly pull out their own hair. They often feel a constant urge to pull out the hair on the scalp. Some sufferers say they feel compelled to pull out their eyelashes, nose hairs, eyebrows, and other hairs on their bodies.
Hi. I am a 23 year old man. I used hair wax (BED HEAD For Men by TIGI) in July last year. I was advised by friends to wash it before I sleep. I used it only twice. Once, I washed it before sleeping, and the other time, I delayed washing to four days. Then when I washed my hair I lost hair excessively. It shocked me to see so much hair-loss in my shower. After that, I kept losing hair for the next few months. I thought shaving my head would solve it – I did that twice. But to no avail. The hair loss ceased at one point. Untill this point, I had only been losing hair in an oval pattern on the front and like an army cut on my lower sides. Now the hair loss has returned. I’m losing hair now on the top mainly. What can be the reasons? Is this MPB or caused by the hair wax (in which case is it treatable?) Should I visit a doctor? Thank you.
Finasteride (Propecia). This prescription drug is available only to men. It’s taken daily in pill form. Many men taking finasteride experience a slowing of hair loss, and some may show some new hair growth. You need to keep taking it to retain benefits.
Tinea capitis (fungal infection of the scalp) — This form of patchy hair loss happens when certain types of fungi infect the scalp. This causes the hair to break off at the scalp surface and the scalp to flake or become scaly. Tinea capitis is a common form of patchy hair loss in children.

This is one example of the saying ‘Solution to almost all body related problems can be found in the kitchen’. Beetroot helps you to complete your nutritional deficiency that causes the hair fall. So include it in your diet and fight this evil problem.
Everyone experiences a little bit of hair loss in the form of hairs falling here or there (especially if you have long hair), but if there is a large amount of hair falling out, that’s not normal. You could be malnourished or could have some medical issue.
What to do: Like men, women may benefit from minoxidil (Rogaine) to help grow hair, or at least, maintain the hair you have, Dr. Glashofer says. Rogaine is available over-the-counter and is approved for women with this type of hair loss.
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people experience smooth, coin-sized bald spots. This type of hair loss usually affects just the scalp, but it sometimes also occurs in beards or eyebrows. In some cases, your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Know the treatments for men. Hereditary-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss. In men, it is most commonly characterised by a receding hairline that forms a rough M shape. Although it is not a disease and is based on your genes, there are treatments that your doctor can prescribe to you. The two medications most commonly used are:
