According to practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, hair health is tied to two things: kidney energy and the blood, which nourish the hair. The solution: acupuncture and Chinese herbs. 10-20% of your hair is always in resting at any given time. Hair loss occurs when your hair falls out without completing this 3 stage cycle. The hair loss becomes permanent when the follicle stops producing hair, leading to balding. There are two types of hair fall that can lead to balding; keep reading to find out what they are.
I quit Minoxidil after the first week because of accelerated/increased hair fall. I believe I made the correct decision because from the very next day, being only taking Finestride, my hair-fall completely stopped. That was quick and till now, on week 10, these is no hair loss, just being on Finestride 1 mg daily.
typical diagnosis we use for massive, temporary hair shedding and is usually related to a major physiologic change or event (pregnancy, high fever), hair shedding can also be the presenting sign of early male- or hair loss.”
Avoid perms. Perming refers to either chemical straightening or chemical curling, both of which can damage your hair. It works specifically by breaking the inner bonds of your hair, and then reforming them in a different way to straighten or curl your hair. This weakens your hair, making it dull, dry and brittle. Over time dry and brittle hair can contribute to hair loss.
Hormonal changes in the body increase the sensitivity of hair follicles, weaken hair roots, and cause excess hair fall. Menopause, ovarian cyst, hypothyroid, hyperthyroid, etc., bring about changes in your body’s hormonal balance, which eventually leads to hair loss.
Life is not about external beauty, we have a bigger purpose to serve in this world. Each one of us is born with unique talents and only we can accomplish that. So focus on that and move on, if the hair has to grow it will and if not then that’s fine as well.
In February, though, Ms. Telford, 46, flew from her home in London, Ontario, to Sarasota, Fla., for a new $1,400 hourlong treatment known as platelet rich plasma (P.R.P.), which is said to stimulate dormant hair follicles. The procedure involves drawing blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to extract the plasma, adding various nutrients (like more protein), then injecting the resulting mixture in one-inch intervals in a grid on the top of the scalp, which has been numbed with a local anesthetic.
Thanks, Ed. I’m afraid if you want to keep your regrown hair you have to use these treatments indefinitely. Otherwise, you’ll lose all your “gains” and be back to the point as if you had never used them. It’s a commitment.
You can get away with using it only where your hair has receded, but I would apply it all over my scalp to help prevent further recession. If you experience side effects talk to your doctor. But keep in mind they may well be just psychological.
“It’s extremely promising,” said Spencer Kobren, founder of the independent American Hair Loss Association, “but I don’t want to say it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.” Because P.R.P. varies so much, it can be hard to know what one is getting, and some doctors “ride on the vulnerability of women,” he said.
When it comes to thinning hair in women, it can be a difficult journey both physically and emotionally. This past weekend as I was admiring my daughter Britta’s thick tresses I began to feel a little melancholy creep in, remembering when MY hair was like that. The last several years my hair has thinned dramatically compared to its’ “glory days.” It’s disconcerting to say the least when you run your fingers through your hair as you’re washing it and LOTS of hair comes out. I’ve even talked to my doctor about it because I know there are medical conditions that can cause higher than normal hair loss. Fortunately (unfortunately?) my hair loss seems to be your garden variety hair loss that comes along with the honor of growing older. 🙂

In almost all cases of thinning, and especially in cases of severe hair loss, it is recommended to seek advice from a doctor or dermatologist. Many types of thinning have an underlying genetic or health-related cause, which a qualified professional will be able to diagnose.
