I would not take propeciahelp seriously. The website is far far too bias. The testimonies against finasteride are unverifiable anecdotes, not to mention the drug itself is not powerful enough to elicit the side effects some of these people are claiming. I have suspicions that it is run by a competitor of finasteride, as I have seen the same kind of tactics used against other FDA approved hairloss drugs. Its harder to sell snake oils when their are legitimate drugs out there.

A key aspect of hair loss with age is the aging of the hair follicle.[40] Ordinarily, hair follicle renewal is maintained by the stem cells associated with each follicle. Aging of the hair follicle appears to be primed by a sustained cellular response to the DNA damage that accumulates in renewing stem cells during aging.[41] This damage response involves the proteolysis of type XVII collagen by neutrophil elastase in response to the DNA damage in the hair follicle stem cells. Proteolysis of collagen leads to elimination of the damaged cells and then to terminal hair follicle miniaturization.

Tight ponytails, cornrows, braids, and anything else that pulls on the small hairs that make up your hairline can cause hair loss. The stress caused by these tight hairstyles pulls too strongly on the delicate hairs of your hairline and hair loss/thinning can occur. If you do need to put your hair up in a ponytail, use an elastic that doesn’t have metal like the Goody’s Ouchless line of hair products. It helps ensure your hair won’t get tangled in the elastic and pull out your hair when removing your ponytail.

Devices that emit low-energy laser light may stimulate hair growth to help fight thinning hair. They’re available in some clinics and as hand-held devices to use at home. Laser therapy is best carried out by a hairdresser or therapist with experience and training in the use of these devices. The long-term safety and effectiveness are unknown.

What to do: If a new Rx is a problem, switch back or talk to your doctor about other birth control types. Stopping oral contraceptives can also sometimes cause hair loss, but this is temporary, says Dr. Hammonds. Don’t make your problem worse with hair-damaging beauty regimens.

“Once you exceed that, you’re losing it at an abnormal rate,” says Dr. David J. Wong, clinical associate professor of dermatology at Stanford University. Contrary to popular notion, hair loss is not just a condition that men face: up to 40 percent of women in America also experience it.

Millions of people, most of them women, suffer from thyroid disease. When your body produces too little thyroid hormone, the hormone responsible for metabolism, heart rate, and mood, you are said to have hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid. If your body makes too much of the hormone, you’re said to have hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid. Thyroid hormone is responsible for everything from your basal metabolic rate—the rate at which your body uses oxygen and energy to function—to the growth of your hair, skin, and nails. But when you don’t have the right amount, you may notice changes in bodily functions.

Everyone loses hair. It happens during your morning shower, while you’re blowing it dry, or when you give it a quick brush—and that’s normal. “On average, we lose fifty to a hundred hairs a day,” says Francesca Fusco, MD, a New York City dermatologist who specializes in hair loss. “That’s just hair going through its cycles, and there will be a new one to replace it.”

What you can do: Avoid using appliances that overheat your hair. Set your hair dryer on cool and low settings, and minimize your use of flat irons. Don’t dye your hair more than one or two shades from its normal color: The more severe the color change, the more chemicals you require, which can make hair break. If you use hair gel or hair spray, don’t wait for it to dry before you comb through it, because the hair will harden and be more likely to break. The condition of your hair doesn’t just affect your looks—it’s an important indicator of your health. If you’re experiencing hair loss, talk to your dermatologist. Try Rahua Voluminous Shampoo and Voluminous Conditioner + Styling Cream to add volume while strengthening hair strands.

Two vitamins your hair really loves are Vitamin D and B12; low levels or deficiencies in these can result in slow hair growth or worse, thinning. If you’re worried, ask your Doctor for a blood test to check these levels before you start taking a supplement – just in case there’s an underlying issue.

All at once. If you are sure it’s MPB, start finasteride (and Nizoral) now and move on. Minoxidil will just delay the inevitable, while fin will potentially stop (or even reverse in some cases) the hair loss. The cure for baldness is to start treatment early. The chances for real sides are non-existent.

The ingredients from your kitchen can be a lot of help when you are looking for remedies for hair fall. Ingredients like coconut oil, onion, ginger, etc., have amazing properties that help promote hair growth.

The reasons for female pattern hair loss are not totally understood, although it is thought to be related to a family history of male or female baldness, changes in the levels of male hormones (androgens) and aging. Five possible causes:

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that may help regrow hair. The lasers are available for home use in doctor’s offices. Laser therapy must be used for between 2 to 4 months before results are visible. Laser therapy is an alternative to medication and hair transplant surgery. The devices are approved by the FDA, but the approval process for devices is not as stringent as it is for medications that undergo a rigorous clinical trial process. Long-term safety and efficacy data for low-level laser therapy is not available. Laser therapy may be effective for 50% of men over the age of 40 and 75% of women over the age of 65 who suffer from certain kinds of hair loss.

The Rogaine rep we spoke to explained that the different packaging (and therefore different prices) has to do with the FDA-approval process: “We discovered in clinical trials that the hair loss patterns between men and women are different,” she said by way of explanation. “Men typically have that bald spot on the crown of their head, where women generally have a general thinning throughout, but concentrated more on the top of the head. So for FDA approval, we had to come up with two different, gender-specific products, so the directions were more explanatory.”

Although many medications list hair loss among their potential side effects, most drugs are not likely to induce hair loss. On the other hand, cancer chemotherapy and immunosuppressive medications commonly produce hair loss. Complete hair loss after chemotherapy usually regrows after six to 12 months.

I don’t believe I clench at night. I will follow your suggestions for relaxation (which will have benefits beyond hair too, I’m sure). It makes intuitive sense to me that the uneven graying /thinning is tension related. I also feel I want to direct lots loving/positive attention towards that side. Thank you again, it means a lot to me that you have responded and given me and others so much invaluable info and hope.

The other currently approved drug for hair loss is Propecia (generic name, finasteride). It works only for men. Why? It keeps the male sex hormone testosterone from forming its DHT by-product. DHT signals shorten the growth phase — and lengthen the rest stage — of hormone-sensitive follicles.

I used propecia in the past combined with minoxidil provided by my hairloss clinique. They have provided me with a liquid form of minoxidil which has caused me itchness wherever I applied it so I have given up using minoxidil however I noticed the combination of these two has made the best results and my hair started to grow back.

Nizoral should be used in conjunction with finasteride and minoxidil. Don’t use it on its own and expect to see huge results. In studies, men with MPB who were using Nizoral lost significantly fewer hairs over the months compared to those who weren’t. So don’t expect to regrow hair using it, but rest assured you hair loss progression is drastically slowed down.

Coconut Oil is perhaps the best oil for preventing hair loss. This oil is used extensively in India and no one can doubt the quality of hair that Indian women possess. Coconut oil acts as sealant by preventing hair from losing its moisture. Apart from the fine nutrition that it provides to your hair, the lauric acid in coconut oil has antibacterial properties that keep away your scalp from infections.

Excessive stress and some medications are conclusively known to retard hair growth. If you have a medical condition and your physician has prescribed medications it is imperative that you follow your doctor’s orders regardless of the impact on your hair.

4. Know that now your hairline is pretty much frozen. Your hair loss will not continue, and if you are lucky you can even possibly regrow hair back. At this point, if you are not happy with the results. You can start considering dutasteride (higher chance of sides) and FUE transplant.

Yes, wearing your hair in tight, restricting styles that pull on your scalp can not only give you a headache and wrinkles, but can also damage your hair follicles to the point where your hair starts to thin. If you style your hair in cornrows or tight braids, be warned: this type of hair loss can be permanent, because you are doing direct damage to the hair follicle itself, preventing its ability to re-grow the strands that come out. Go easy on your scalp and try to opt for loose styles like a messy bun, or simply use clips or scrunchies instead of more restricting hair elastics. Your hair will thank you. If you have to use an elastic, try Sephora’s Snag-Free Hair Elastics or Goody Ouchless Gentle Hair Elastics.

Know when to visit the doctor. It’s important to know when your hair loss could be a symptom of a more serious medical complaint, in which case you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Contact a doctor if you are losing hair in an unusual pattern, or rapidly at an early age, such as in your teen or twenties.[37] Other symptoms to look out for are:

Try aloe vera juice and neem paste. Many think that this treatment can control hair fall. While more scientific research needs to be done in order to prove that this is an effective treatment, aloe vera is thought to increase blood flow wherever it’s applied, and neem paste may have many hair benefits, including promoting growth, hydrating, and keeping the scalp healthy.[7]

Great article thx!! I’m 38 and still have a full head of hair but I started to shed about 3 months ago. Typically ~15 hairs on my pillow when I wake up and 20 or so hairs on my hand after I shower. I also notice hairs on my desk during the day. I never noticed any hair loss before 3 months ago. I started to use rogaine 5% twice a day about a month and a half ago and the shedding accelerated. I read that is normal but should it still be doing this after 1.5 months? I haven’t tried propecia yet as I want to see if Rogaine will do the trick but will if the shedding doesn’t stop. Also, do you think stress can play a part in hair loss? I started a super stressful job about 6 months ago so thinking my hair loss could be related to that.
